Direct Mailing Can Reach Out to Your Customers and Let Them Know You Miss Them

Anytime you are considering marketing strategy, be sure to include direct mailing. It is one of the most effective marketing tools available. Whether you are sending out the mailing yourself or hiring a company to do it for you, direct mailing can not only stimulate your current customers and encourage them to visit your business, direct mailing can bring you new customers.

Direct mailing can be sent to the customer in several different forms. When you send out business letters, they can be very effective because you can give the customer a lot of information in the letter and you can include brochures or business cards. But be careful that they do not look too much like a billing. Some customers tend to toss those aside. If you choose to send out fliers, you can make them more interesting by using different colors of paper to print your information on. You can also choose to add pictures. One of the best direct mailings you can send out is post card. You can add any type of picture or graphic you choose. When you send out a post card, you actually contact anyone who sees it, because no one can resist reading a post card.

It is always a good idea to add a special promotion to your direct mailing information. You can add your promotion in the form of a special certificate for your letter, or you can place it on the back on your business card, on the flier, or on your post card. It can be for a percentage off the regular price, it could be an offer for fifty percent off one item or it could be a buy one get one free offer. A promotion to get something free is always great for getting attention. If you want to bring in new customers, make the promotion available to the customer who received the mailing and one friend. Make sure that the offer you make is just too tempting to resist. If you can get your customer to visit your business for the promotion, you can usually get them to purchase other items.

Make sure that your mailing list is up to date. You can request that the post office return undeliverable mail, giving you an opportunity to contact your customer to get the new address if possible. One good strategy for updating your mailing list is to send out tri-fold cards requesting the customer update their address. Of course it never hurts to encourage customer participation by entering everyone who responds in a contest to win a prize. 

When you send out direct mailing you are not only stimulating your customer base, you are building customer loyalty. It is important to let your customer know that you appreciate their business. And it never hurts to send a direct mailing if you have not done business with the customer for a while, let them know that you really miss them. Emotional connections are important; they help to build loyalty to your business.
